Disciple, according to Easton’s Bible Dictionary, is as follows: A disciple of Christ is one who,
- believes Christ’s doctrine
- rests on Christ’s sacrifice
- imbibes Christ’s Spirit
- imitates Christ’s example
Not only do we need weekly celebration and worship time as a corporate body, we also need a deeper relationship with fellow believers in order to grow in faith. A smaller, more intimate group is where we get to know one another personally, carry one another’s burdens, pray for one another and learn through relationships how to be more like Christ in practice. It’s where what we know is walked out in shoe leather.
In Phil. 4:9 Paul writes,
“The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”
Jesus preached to many, many people, but always returned to His core group of “disciples” – teaching them, training them and breaking bread (fellowshipping) with them. He used a small group to equip the future leaders of the early church to change the world, and we believe this same approach is just as vital today.
At Tabernacle Baptist Church we have small groups, formerly known as D-Groups. There is one study lesson on Sunday mornings at Tabernacle at 9:30AM. There is a different study that runs throughout the week. We are using “Right Now Media” as the source of our small group studies.
Please note that in order to comply with governmental recommendations with regard to Covid-19, masks and distancing may be required.
SMALL GROUP SCHEDULE:
- The Sunday morning study meets at 9:30AM at the church;
- The weeknight studies meet as follows:
- Tuesday evenings at 6:30PM at the Keene’s home in Essex;

What God Says About Himself
What thoughts come to mind when you think of God? Do you wonder what he’s like, what he thinks about you, or what he wants for you? The good news is that we don’t have to go far to find answers. God tells us all we need to know about who he is and what he’s like—about his heart—and why that matters for our lives. In this six-session series we will be on a journey of discovery of the heart of God. We will walk away knowing God better and loving him more.
